And the Crucible production is perfect in all respects. The cast is first-rate and Lorcan Cranitch as Vladimir is an absolute genius; the finest example of naturalistic acting I've come across in fifty years of theatre-going.

The set is beautifully mesmerising. I giggled and cried non-stop, often at the same time, watching this most human of plays. Two hours ten minutes of pure joy! Can't praise it enough. A must! You don't hear a thing before play starts but from the moment the referee says "frame one, John Higgins to break" it starts Leave, have a drink or simply go and lie down but stop spoiling it for others!
