The sides of it end up blocking holes 3 and 5, so that all we hear is the nice clear single note of the blow 4 hole. You could think of this as a semi-pucker because your lower lip is curving, but your top lip is just staying relaxed with the harmonica deep beneath it. I want to emphasize again that your upper lip is not involved in the isolating of the note.
At this point, no sound is coming out because your bottom lip is blocking all of the holes. Now, ever so slowly rotate it down until you hear that one clear note. Once you are able to isolate the 4 blow, try moving around playing single notes on other holes on the harmonica.
Try blowing and drawing on every hole:. It is very unlikely that your harmonica is broken. No wonder playing harmonica is so much fun, it requires us to relax! This is because the lower notes are arranged so you can play a C major chord C, E, G on the blow notes. If you breathe out through holes 1 to 4, you'll notice that they sound "correct". They agree with each other rather than sounding messing and horrible. This is a C major chord, and it can be useful when accompanying other musicians.
The draw notes on the lower holes are set up to allow you to play a G chord. The draw notes on holes 1 to 4 are D, G, B, D. These are all part of the G chord, which is very useful as well. I am very very glad you are getting better so fast!

Hello Myra, just out of curiosity, did you buy a 10 hole harmonica in the key of C? Regarding your inquiry, tremolo harmonicas have a different way to play: you must play two cells at the same time. All the best for this ! Great help as i bought a very cheap tremolo C harmonica just to see if it was easy playing. With these tunes i have the confidence to take the next step and buy a diatonic harmonica in the future. Mikeh, that problem is very common indeed and I call it reference on the harmonica. The correct embouchure for tremolo harmonica is quite different than 10 hole diatonic harmonica, you need to readjust it.

Hi, I just started learning how to play the harmonica and Im just curious what the difference is between the bolded and non bolded numbers and arrows? You have to keep the air stream and when you pronounce the syllabes, the tongue should hit the hard palate of the mouth and define the repeated notes more clearly.

I am 59 and just started playing, or trying to. I know nothing about musical notes, like different keys or what not. I have a pretty good ear for music, and i really surprised my-self.
