The season begins with the Matty and Jenna's relationship troubles after the whole summer together. Also Valerie, Tamara, and Jake back from Europe. Tamara and Jake are in a relationship. Ming realizes that the Asian Mafia 's leader Becca is Fred's ex-girlfriend and she tries to make them break up after sending Fred to another school.
Lacey and Kevin are together again since the second season finale. After Kevin finds out that Jenna and Matty had sex, he calls Matty's parents to tell them that their children are having sex and it all ends with Matty living with Jenna and her family after fighting with his mother.
Matty eventually moves back with his family and everything is back to normal. Valerie puts Jenna in a writer class and her teacher is mean, but there Jenna meets Collin Jennings , who has a girlfriend and asks Jenna and her friends to a party that Collin's girlfriend is hosting.
Angelique Welch After a while, Jenna begins to have feelings for Collin and ends up kissing him in Collin's car. At the same time, Sadie's parents break up with each other. Sadie's mother goes to rehab and her father is never home.
Sadie is having a hard time at school and finally ends up meeting Angelique 's brother. Ricky Schwarts at the beginning of the season. Lissa thinks that she killed him. Finally, Sadie tells her that she didn't kill him even when it seems that she killed him by accident. Jenna starts cheating on Matty by kissing with Collin and after Tamara finds out she kept sit from Jake. Ming also gets Becca fired from the Asian Mafia. Ming finally starts dating Fred and she dies he hair blonde.
Matty, Lacey, and Valerie throw Jenna a surprise party and there Matty with the others find Jenna and Collin kissing at the door of Jenna's home. After Matty leaves, and everyone tries to discover if they're still together, Matty calls Jenna and tries to get back together with her, but she says that she doesn't want to be with him.
Jenna starts having a bad time when her friends are taking sides between Jenna and Matty and anyone even try to actually meet Collin as well as Jenna think she does. Jenna starts changing her personality and starts pulling apart everyone she used to care about like Tamara, Ming, Jake, Matty, Valerie, and even her parents. Collin gets Jenna to take drugs.
She breaks up with him when Collin tries to make a threesome with his ex-girlfriend Angelique. Jenna found out that they never stopped seeing each other and having sex. Jenna begins trying to fix all her relationships but it gets complicated when Valerie gets fired after Jenna published an article that concerned the principal. Jenna get's Valerie's job back and fixes her friendships.
She even makes a new friend: Bailey Parker. With the prom coming, Jenna thinks that Matty is going to invite her but she find out that he only wanted to ask her if she was cool with him inviting Bailey to the prom. Tamara becomes class president after a fight with Jake. Jenna and the others start their junior year, and she feels isolated from her friends after their summer vacation in Europe.
Everyone suspects Sadie is pregnant, but reveals to Lissa that her and her family are now broke. However, Jenna herself goes through a pregnancy scare, but is relieved to find out she is not pregnant, and her mother convinces her not to tell Matty about the whole ordeal.
Ricky Schwartz dies. Matty confesses his feelings for Jenna in the most permanent way and Jenna tells Jake about her pregnancy scare instead of Matty, and when he finds out from Jake rather than her, he gets upset. Jenna feels that Matty has become distant after he found out about the pregnancy scare through Jake. Ming is trying to hide from the Asian Mafia. Sadie is experiencing loneliness after her family and friends all ditched her and calls up Matty for support. Matty tells Jenna that they need to talk, which prompts her to get Tamara to arrange a group date with her, Matty, Tamara, Jake, Ming, and Henry to avoid having alone time with Matty.
Matty is jealous of Jenna and Jake's easygoing friendship. Jenna's dad finds out that she and Matty are sexually active and proceeds to tell Matty's parents. The McKibbens come over for dinner, which doesn't end well, as the women get into an argument over their different parenting styles. Meanwhile, Tamara and Jake are contemplating sex for the first time. Jake confesses that he loves Tamara. Meh, it passed the time.
